Operational Themes

There are four major challenges that our programs seek to address, namely:

HIV/AIDS and Education

HIV/AIDS infection rate among the ages of 15-21 is higher in youth of Khayelitsha. That is according to the Peer Counsellors in the Youth Clinic. In some cases, however, children in primary school need to be empowered about dangers of sexual activities and why prevention is vital. Snapshot will therefore play a role in showcasing short documentaries and promote positive living. Our integrated strategies will drive youth into taking informed decisions about life, responsibility and ownership.

The primary objective of Snapshot is to enhance teaching and learning practices by playing videos suitable for schools as this will make comprehension and retension of various subjects more effective. We believe technology should be part of society and efficient curriculum decoding. Multimedia video facility will on best practices of normalising education.

Films to Fight Drugs & Gangsterism

Most crimes taking place in Khayelitsha and the rest of Cape Flats. Drugs are part of the gangsterism. Our videos will communicate a strong message of hope to the youth as a vulnerable group. Committment and unsung victories through testimonies will form part of educational strategies to shun danger away from young people.

Abuse (Physical & Sexual)

Statistics shows that a child gets raped and killed every 10 minutes in South Africa. HIV/Aids, poverty and family violence is characterised by this kind of mishaps. At times, it is partly due to the myths out there in our communities that says sleeping with a children might cure Aids. A multi-pronged strategy is needed to adequately address this matter and promote safe and healthy neigborhood. We wish work in concert with Simelela Survivors Clinic (Rape Clinic) – Khayelitsha.

Entrepreneurship

Unemployment is partly caused by the lack of essential skills and has made most of youth uninspired. Economic Empowerment is a vital component of our business and it seeks to help bring back the competitive drive to capacitate both youth and women. Literacy and business skills program will be channelled in bringing into frutition entreprenurial skills and job creation opportunities of these young people. We believe this is one intervention that could help stop the risk of these social ills.
